America is in the midst of an opioid epidemic. In 2015 there were more than 33,000 overdose deaths. This number rose to more than 64,000 deaths in 2016 and these numbers show no signs of slowing down. To put these numbers in perspective, more than double the number of people died by drug overdose last year than the number of people killed by gun violence.
