Coola Sunless Tan Collection Product Review

When I was in high school there was nothing I wanted more than to have a “TanToo”, a tanline formed by a sticker placed on the skin prior to tanning to leave an outline in a certain shape. Prior to homecoming and prom all the girls in my class would trek to the tanning salon in town and pick out their sticker and have the daintiest little heart outline as a remnant of their pale self at the end of their tanning session. I however never did trek to the tanning salon. I have always been fair skinned and being tan is not in the cards for me. If I’m not slathering myself up with sunscreen every couple hours, I wind up a burnt tomato and when my burn finally fades I return to my baseline shade of translucent. Desperate to fit in while in high school I opted to get a series of spray tans prior to prom which left me a very unnatural shade of orange and no amount of scrubbing or exfoliating would get my knees and elbows to match the rest of my body. The spray tans left my skin sticky and I was always fearful I would end  up like Ross from Friends who counted “Mississippily” and overdid his spray tan.

This lead to a decade long search in finding a solution to end my pale skinned summers without putting myself at risk of sun damage or skin cancer. Well fear not, the search for the the perfect tan is over! Introducing Coola Organic Sunless Tan Sculpting Mousse and Coola Sunless Tan Anti-Aging Face Serum, which has become my holy grail skin care product this summer.

COOLA Organic Sunless Tan Sculpting Mousse

Product Details

This is a sunless tan mousse which applies evenly and develops in a beautiful tan within 8 hours. The formula ensures your tan is streak free and gradual and buildable if you’d like a much obvious sunkissed glow. The formula contains green coffee, caffeine, algae extract, and sugar beet-derived DHA which leaves skin feeling smooth, toned and tightened.

My Experience

Last summer I used another brand of tanning mousse while staying in a hotel for several weeks. Every time I used the self tanner I would try and sit like a starfish allowing the tan to dry before climbing into black sweatpants and a sweatshirt and going to bed, yet every morning I woke up with tan makeup stains all over the white linens. I felt horrible and would always write the housekeeping staff an apology. I  eventually stopped using the tanning mousse because it kept transferring onto all my clothes and linens which also left me with an uneven and streaky fake tan. I was nervous to try a new tanning mousse but I was excited to give Coola a chance.

I followed the directions of the Coola Tan Sculpting Mousse using a tanning mitt I already had. I went to bed and woke up with the most beautiful gorgeous glow. I decided to apply another application of the tanning mousse on the second day for some extra color and on day 3 I was extremely pleased with my results! My skin is a natural looking tan, and I haven’t noticed any streaks or orange discolorations, and better yet the color did not transfer onto my clothes or linens! The mousse smells very pleasant, applies easily, and is pretty much foolproof.  This is the best self tanner I have ever used, hands down!

Pros

  • Made with organic ingredients
  • Cruelty Free
  • Vegan
  • Made in the USA
  • Easy to apply

Cons

  • The mousse isn’t tinted so it was difficult to know where I had applied the product
  • It is sold exclusively at Ulta

Coola Sunless Tan Anti-Aging Face Serum

Product Details

This is a sunless tanning face serum which is made of eco-certified, cruelty free, non-GMO ingredients. The serum creates a gradual, buildable sunless tan which is streak free, transfer proof and lasts up to 3 days. It can be applied daily for a deep glow, or can be mixed with a daily moisturizer for a more subtle, long lasting radiance.  It contains an antioxidant rich blend of argan oil, vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, plant stem cell cultures to hydrate and smooth the skin and to fight uneven skin tone and premature aging of the skin.

My Experience

WOW, WOW, WOW! I don’t even know where to start with this product.

To preface: last summer I began trying to find a sunless tanning lotion for my face and quickly became frustrated on my search. All the products I tried smelled horrendous and left me with a strange orange-brown residue that left me looking dirty and settling into the fine lines and irregularities of my skin. Needless to say when I received this product I was very nervous to give it a try given my previous experience.

This product changed everything, it is truly magic in a bottle. I apply a little bit at night and I wake up with natural looking glow the next morning. It gives me just enough color to make my skin radiate but it is subtle enough that it doesn’t look like a fake bake. I’ve never noticed any streaks of color, and The serum is silky to the touch and spreads smoothly on the skin with ease. It’s pina colada scent is subtle, but very pleasant.

With the gradual color this serum gives me, I no longer feel the need to wear foundation or bronzer which has decreased breakouts and the hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, argan oil and plant stem cell cultures have made my skin soft and hydrated.

I should mention the price point is $54.00, which may seem steep for a sunless tanning product, but I beg to disagree. Since this serum is a blend of antioxidant rich ingredients and are all high quality, cruelty free, non-GMO ingredients that are developed and made in the USA I think $54 is a steal for this high quality product. This serum has since replaced all the other face serums I used to use which had much higher price points on average.

Pros

  • Natural looking sunless tan
  • Easy to apply
  • Pina Colada Scent – no perfumes
  • Made in the USA
  • Cruelty Free
  • Vegan
  • Non GMO sourced ingredients

Cons

  • None! (Seriously get this product)

I received these two  complementary products in an Influenster’s VoxBox in exchange for my honest review.
